The Collaborative Endeavor

Posted on Sun Feb 19th, 2006 @ 11:19pm by Captain Tal Feryn

I know that we're all here to have fun, but I wanted to bring something up that I've noticed happening more frequently that it rightfully should be. Simming is a collaborative endeavor that we all enjoy, but sometimes, we can jump the gun and start writing for other characters besides our own. Some players don't mind, others do.

As a general rule of make sure you aren't writing characters for their players, and especially don't write them into a corner. What do I mean by that? Don't write a whole spat of dialogue with incessant tagging within, because by doing that, you're actually limiting what the other player can do with that, and no one likes to be backed into a corner. Tags are fine, just make sure that you're not 1) playing another character, putting long bouts of dialogue or actions in their mouth/hands, and 2) backing them in to a corner so they can't react how their character should react. Instead, email or chat with the player and work out things, whether that be dialogue, reactions, or whatever. We have this great JP feature on the site now, so take advantage of it!

If you have any questions about this, drop me an email. If you have questions for other players about their character, drop them an email. It never hurts to ask.
