Task Force Honors

Posted on Wed Dec 3rd, 2008 @ 6:17pm by 1st Lieutenant William Foster

While trolling the forums I ran across this... and since the Skipper obviously won't toot his own horn I shall follow Captain Hawke's example and toot it for him. So, to quote Captain Hawke (and then the Triad and then the person who actually did the nomination) from the forum...

"This award was announced by Admiral Day yesterday, and I though it only appropriate to share it on the Forums.

TF Commanding Officer Unit of Merit Award – Admiral William Reardon, USS Nimitz

It’s not difficult to nominate Dave for this award. Whilst I haven’t been on his sim very long, he’s demonstrated numerous elements to me already which I have encountered in the best COs I’ve served with. He’s patient, answers questions fully and in a manner which is easy to understand, and was more than welcoming when I pestered him with requests during the application process. This is key for a successful CO; if a player tries to join a simulation where the CO is gruff, unresponsive and doesn’t care to help their players get started, they’re unlikely to desire to stay on that sim for very long. Dave is none of these things, and has welcomed me aboard, allowing me to explore my character’s background on my own until it is possible for her to reach Nimitz.

Furthermore, I’ve seen how well he co-ordinates his crew. In grand-scale JPs he’s been effective in helping his crew to work together and in keeping the plot of the story moving effectively and at a steady pace. This, too, is key; a CO must be able to work well with his crew and be actively involved alongside them in the development of a storyline. Some COs would see themselves as superior to their crew – this is definitely not true of Dave.

His sim’s website is also immaculately maintained with excellent, relevant and useful content on a wide variety of topics, as well as with a very unique skin. The master of SMS has made superb use of his own group’s product to create an effective website – it answers many questions that one might have, and is a tribute to his skill as a CO that he has maintained his sim’s site to such superb effect.

For the above reasons, I therefore nominate Admiral William Reardon for the Task Force Commanding Officer of Merit Award. "
