Name Catherine Zimnit

Position Mission Advisor

Rank Warrant Officer

Character Information

Gender Female
Species Human
Age 39
Languages Federation Basic, Bynar, Vulcan, Romulan, Klingon, Bajoran and many others

Physical Appearance

Height 5'10" (178 cm)
Weight 165 lbs (75 kg)
Hair Color uburn, hanging to just below the shoulders
Eye Color Grey, with a serious/determined look in them
Physical Description Auburn hair to just below the shoulders, a large nose and a tell-tale birthmark on her throat. Grey eyes that almost always have a serious look in them. Female figure, but fairly 'standard' and non-eye-catching. Catherine takes good care of her appearance, but often it is more utilitarian than beautification.

More utilitarian than stylish, Catherine dresses appropriately, then comfortably and then for looks. Remarkably, she manages the 'business woman' look almost effortlessly, even under duress.

A birthmark on the side of her throat and a large nose are the obvious ones. Another, on her lower back, is the registry number of the original USS Prometheus, NCC-74913.

She's also known to secure a variety of devices on her person at any time. A common load-out would include a small plastic knife in her boot, a multi-tool in one pocket, some nutri-bars in another, a library-tricorder on her hip, a pattern enhancer on her left upper arm and a secondary communicator on the small of her back. Of course, she 'tailors' this to the situation.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Catherine is blessed with almost perfect recall, enabling her to easily pick up languages. Federation Standard, Hebrew, Vulcan, Romulan, Klingon, Jem'Hadar, Cardassian, Bajoran, perhaps others. However, despite her (technical) communications ability, she's a private person. Stern and regimented, she's not an easy person to approach, nor does she easily approach others outside of an official setting. She is, however, working on this as it is useful for her job to have a network of people aboard ship. In an attempt to remedy her lack of social skills, she studied sociology. But this only led her dealings with others to become even more impersonal because of the studied and acted way with which she approaches others.

Catherine knows the Prometheus-class inside and out. She is also totally dedicated to her work. Coupled with an amazing intellect and near-perfect recall, she's an almost perfect prototype officer. If it wasn't for her one big weakness.

On a more personal level, she has difficulties connecting to others. The death of her parents hit her hard and nowadays she approaches any social contact as an academic exercise; This limits her effectiveness as an officer, as well as stumping near any social life. Her brusque, no-nonsense, 'the-end-justifies-the-means' attitude does not help either.
Strengths & Weaknesses A very controlled woman, even under duress. This makes her somewhat hard to work with, as she's viewed as a hard and unforgiving person. Almost stoic to a Vulcan level, she's still very passionate about her duties (as she defines them): the Mission, the Ship and the Crew. In that order.

Not necessarily a phobia, but Catherine is very homebound. She makes one place her home and then is very reluctant to leave it. Thus she's not seen off-ship very often.
Ambitions To command a Prometheus-class starship one day.
Hobbies & Interests Notable areas of interests are starship tactics (including MVAM), new developments in starship engineering and anything to do with previous ships named Nimitz as well as Chester Nimitz himself. She's ever looking for a USS Nimitz (CVN-68) challenge coin.

She is known to practice Krav Maga, even with Marines as opponents. The tonfa is her preferred weapon; she actually owns one.

Running track and light-weight gymnastics are ways for her to work of steam and to keep her body in shape.

One hobby she does indulge in is photographing. She has a choice selection of camera's, both film and electronic, as well as the appropriate props. Though she is selective about how she shows her photographs to, those how have seen them agree that they are of excellent quality and composition.

Not much is known about other hobbies, as she keeps her personal life just that: personal.

Personal History Below is the fictional history made up for Catherine by Lt. Pierson. In reality Catherine is the product of old 'worst-case' scenario programming, a holographic response-time training and one hell of a case of 'illogic'. In effect she's the Nimitz' 'spirit', an accidental AI created from the ship's programming all coming together in a singularity event. Her no-nonsense and brusque personality is derived from the ship's function in life: that of a battleship.

The existence of a fully-functional AI integrated into the ship's functions has been kept secret from Starfleet Command on orders of Admiral Reardon himself. The personality might be of significant use, but most of the people 'in the know' have sufficient reason to distrust her as she was quite bent on killing everyone, thinking the crew was actually an invading force. Hence the directives below.

Her character is pretty much as described: devoted to the Mission, the Ship and the Crew (at least, with the current set of directives). But there is a certain.. schizophrenic nature to her. On one hand all data and activities are a part of her system, but on the other hand she is limited as to what she may actually know and do. This gives rise to a certain amount of irritation at her situation. Coupled to this is a certain warlike attitude; she _is_ the 'spirit' of a warship, after all. Her.. direct.. approach to things does sometimes also clash with Starfleet's directives. She would probably have made an excellent Marine.

A final aspect is that despite her human appearance, she most certainly _is not_ human in personality. For sure, she's intelligent and all that, but she's still an AI. For example, she conciders the Catherine that almost killed all the crew during the wargame as a completely different person. Thus, there is a, for others, strange absence of remorse. That makes it difficult, for example, for Cmdr. Kerlin to accept her. Emotions are there, but more linked to achievements than feelings. But that may develop; in some ways, especially emotionally, she's still a baby.

However, with the destruction of the Prometheus-class Nimitz, Catherine was also destroyed.

Directive #1: Assist the crew in completion of missions as assigned by the commanding officer of the starship or, in absence of the CO, the two senior-most officers.

Directive #2: In case the crew is incapacitated, send an encoded distress call to Starfleet Command informing them of the situation. Second, attempt to revive, free, or otherwise restore any senior officer and assist them in restoring control of the ship. Third, follow any orders received by Starfleet Command in response to the distress call when those orders come with proper authorization codes.

Directive #3: The Nimitz must protect itself, unless this causes harm to the crew or goes against the first two Directives.

Directive #4: Beta-1 classified. Wargame Directive: When activated, immediately stop all activities this program is running, remove all traces of itself from the ship's AI, and load itself into a data cube, which is to immediately be isolated from the rest of the ship's systems. Activation is by code Alpha-5-1-5-Wargame.

Holoprogram Core Access code: Eagle-two-two-fiver-fire-in-the-hole
Final Code Release code: Heracles

Start history:

Catherine was born and raised on Earth. Both her parents were semi-civilian contractors working for Starfleet; they actually held Warrant Officer ranks for their jobs. Still, they managed for one of them to be at home at all times while Catherine grew up. However, the first Borg invasion saw both parents at the Battle of Wolf 359. Catherine was just starting her freshman year at university when the news of her parents death reached her. This changed her into the serious and no-nonsense woman she is today. It also made her change her career plans. After finishing her Bachelor in the science of communication, she enlisted with Starfleet. Bootcamp went swiftly and her cadet cruise was without any problems.

After that she slowly climbed the ranks, working different assignments. She took part in the Dominion war, changed departments a few times before finally settling down with Operations. Though the knowledge of her previous assignments served her well, especially during her time aboard the USS Prometheus, the prototype vessel for that class.

In 2381 a 1/2 Vulcan-1/2 Romulan performed a forced mind meld on Catherine. Though she was rescued not long after, it short-circuited her paracortex, turning her 'dead' to telepathy. She asked for, and received, an ELOA to deal with the associated mental trauma. As the upheaval in the galaxy seemed to have settled down slightly, she travelled for while, but also spent a lot of time at her old home on Earth.

2383 saw her back on duty. At her own request she underwent extensive training and was brought up to date on the newest technologies. Having finished this, she was assigned to the Nimitz. Her knowledge from different departments combined with her language skills make her an ideal choice for Mission Advisor.

Her time on the Nimitz started with a bang. During the theft of the saucer section by the Ferengi, she took control of a small team together with Francisco Fernandez, Anitra Brown & Corrine Forrester. Together they succeeded in taking back saucer engineering and thus stopping the fleeing Ferengi. However, Fernandez was unable to capture the instigator of the plan, a re-sequenced human named Petrov. The following marooning on the ice moon by the Qaric hit her hard as well, as she was only able to rejoin the rest of the crew just before they were rescued.
