Personality & Traits

General Overview Arveth Nogierin appears to be a sarcastic wise guy who always has a joke ready, but is really just a cover for his lack of self-confidence. Growing up an outcast in Trill society as left him scarred, and terrified of being alone again. Because of this, Arveth will do anything for his friends, afraid he will be abandoned if he does not.
Strengths & Weaknesses Possibly due to be raised in an orphanage, Arveth feels as though he must be the one to save the proverbial day. He believes that if he doesn't prove himself worthwhile, that people will abandon him. However, in times of stress, he will act instinctively, sometimes to his detriment.
Ambitions Due to his court-martial and subsequent demotion back to Ensign, Arveth has resigned himself to remaining that rank forever. While he never wanted to command a ship of his own, his private goal was becoming a full lieutenant.
Hobbies & Interests Arveth has always had an interest in all things mechanical. He has several projects that he tinkers with from time to time, the most prevalent being his anti-Borg ship, nicknamed the "Theracie". Because of his renewed friendship with Edith "Edie" Mackenzie, Arveth has begun again training with her in Coup de vitesse.

Personal History Childhood:
Arveth Nogierin was dropped off at an orphanage when he was only a few weeks old. His parentage is a mystery. Growing up in the orphanage, Nogierin found he had a gift with languages at a young age, teaching himself Federation Standard at the age of 10. Other languages soon followed. Attending public schooling, he was amongst the honor roll more often than naught.
As he reached the end of the school system, Nogierin was constantly reminded about his need to "reimburse" the state for his upbringing. Knowing that his gift with languages would destine him to a life in a bureaucracy in the Trill government, he searched for a way out. The outbreak of the Dominion War, and a visit to his campus by a Starfleet Recruiter offered him that chance.

Academy or Equivalent:
Accepted to the Academy's Linguistic Division, he began training as a code cracker. It was believed that his affinity for languages would make him a natural code cracker. After two weeks of struggle, he transferred to Flight Control Systems. There, he excelled where he failed in the Linguistic Division. Within the first three months, his mind for obscure tactics and strategies earned him modest amount fame with the student body.

In his Tactics class, Nogierin met with something that would haunt him for the rest of his life. Growing up, he had read stories of grand adventurers, who were gallant and brave. Nogierin believed that he should always make the fight fair, and fight honorably. At the Academy, he learned that in a fight, you fight to win, regardless. You fight dirty. You stack the odds against your opponent in every way you can.

Nogierin's natural aptitude for this kind of combat has caused him no small amount of inner conflict. One side of his personality wants to be the honorable warrior, treating his enemies with respect, and fight fair. The other does whatever it needs to be successful in war, to win at any cost. Both sides of his personality are in constant conflict, causing Nogierin to become increasingly distant, even from his closest friends.

As the Dominion War escalated, Starfleet's loses increased dramatically. To counteract this, the time required to graduate from the Academy was reduced time and time again. By his third year, Nogierin was in the top 15% of his class, and graduated several weeks early.
Service Record Nogierin's first posting was the USS Stennis, as Assistant Chief Flight Control Officer on the Beta shift. During the Battle of Cardassia, the Stennis came under heavy fire. Assigned to the bridge, an exploding console tore into the right half of his face. Ordered to go to Sick Bay by Captain Rowling, he arrived to find the section damaged and Sickbay vented to open space. Returning to the bridge, Nogierin found it in disarray. Ordered to take the CONN this time by Captain Rowling, he pushed aside the dead body at CONN, and promptly vomited. Gathering himself together, he was able to successfully pilot the Stennis to safety.
Because no one was able to perform first aid on his eye during the battle, it had to be replaced, via synthetics. Taking medical leave, Nogierin spent the next few months adjusting to the new eye. Returning to the Stennis, he served with distinction until his transfer to the Nimitz, taking the position of Chief Flight Control Officer.
