Well, we're back. What was supposed to be a routine, well, as routine as any mission can be in the current crisis situation, a routine mission turned out to be a rescue mission, with an added possible 'first-contact'.
First the positives. We've saved the whole crew of the So'jar. Once the radiation dropped, they were able to hold out until the Veracruz arrived to take them on board and treat them. They were incredibly lucky that we were where we were to pick up their radiowave distress call.
Lieutenant Foxwell is still alive and in one piece, though suffering from a concussion.. and perhaps something more. Barbara (NPC) mentioned something about him ranting and screaming in pain just before his ejection. Medical reports him to still be unconscious. When we brought him aboard, there was nothing clearly wrong, so whatever it is, it's inside. I hope he recovers soon, and I'm hoping he can tell me more about his encounter.
We brought the drive section we found adrift aboard the Veracruz as well. Plans to scan the asteroid system more carefully were shelved, as the Veracruz was too valuable right now to put at risk. Preliminary results from Vaintè's (NPC) crew confirm most of my findings, though in more detail. The drive was part of a sub-light spacecraft that had crossed the distances between the stars, similar to the early sleeper ships of old Earth. The xeno-anthropologists are over the moon with the find, while astrometrics is trying to figure out where it may have come from. Alkad (NPC) would want to see this. I should send her a message about it.
On the flip side. Oh, the flip side. Starfleet Command chewed me another one about loosing one of their precious fighters. Apparently these were still prototypish, and top-of-the-line, so loosing one to an unknown faction was _not_ what they wanted to hear. It may not be a black mark, but it'll go into my file. Oh well, not much that I can do about it any more.
Which brings me to another, even more worrisome incident. The Sojourner still hasn't arrived after making its run. The Admiral has been up in arms about it, and the crew members that are here are worried as well. In slipstream, the ship should be very difficult to intercept, so we have no idea what's going on. I've been going over sensor logs from the first trips, trying to figure out what's going on. There's a rumor that Captain Diaz has taken command of another ship to hunt down the Sojourner. That Ensign Young (NPC) is certainly on top of things. The way they're tracing the communication disruptions is clever. I'm starting to get some idea's myself as well. Hopefully we can find the Sojourner quickly. No news is not always good news.
