Jonathan walked through the halls. Security had been significantly increased in this area. Separated from the halls serving as a diplomatic cooridor for the Romulans and the Klingons, the Remans have been given a small but significant gesture. Jonathan had been tasked with making the Remans feel significant but keeping the Federation out of a full-blown Romulan Civil War.

War between the Romulans and the Remans would certainly plunge the Alpha and Beta Quadrands back into full blown hostilities. The Klingons would fee off the blood and carnage and begin expanding their territories. The Romulans would almost certainly destroy themselves fighting eachother trying to gain the military advantage while simoltaneously fighting off waves of Reman forces. All this would be happening and the Federation would inevitably get stuck in the middle.

All this had been running through Jonathan's head as he approached the conference room door. Standing on either side were two lightly armed Starfleet Security Officers. Speaking outloud to himself he shook his head, "At least they had the decency to make sure we are protected from intrusion."

Looking at Jonathan, the ranking officer turned to the Master Chief, "Is there anything we could help you with Master Chief?"

Nodding his head, "Yeah, don't stand here like you are going to be holding our guests prisoner while I'm stuck inside with them alone. They need to feel invited, not imprisoned."

Looking at him confused, "Master Chief, Lieutenant Rovak told us..."

"Does it matter what he told you?" Interrupting the Ensign, "He isn't here to dictate the security arrangements, you are Ensign. Take some inititive and understand that I've had experience with these types of meetings well before you were even thought of being born. Take some advice, move down the hall, into a room across the hall, something and somewhere other than right in front of this door."

Shaking his head, "I don't think you understand the complexity of your own situation Master Chief. We are here to maintain the security of these proceedings. I know how to do my job."

Giving a heavy sigh, Jonathan shook his head. "You're here to maintain the integrity, not show force. If your show of force threatens these meetings, you can explain to the brass directly what happened."

Smiling, "Ok Master Chief, that's your call. Know that the Reman delegation showed up about 10 minutes ago. They're waiting for you inside." Tapping the control panel, "We'll be here if you need us."

Jonathan staightened up as the double doors slid open. Frozen in place, his eyes started scanning the room as the large circular table was filled with Reman delegates with the sole exception of a single chair, obviously meant for him. Around the room in staggering positions were Reman guards, standing in ceremonial garb and prominantely displaying defensive weapons.

Not taking his eyes off the Reman delegation, Jonathan spoke to the Ensign again, "On second thought...stick close." Thinking to himself, This will be interesting!
